{Neglected}

Hello, poor neglected blog.  Every night, when I am driving home, I think that I will get home in enough time to cook dinner, go running, and blog.  Every night, by the time I get home, one (or more) of those things gets removed from my to do list.  Between grading papers, planning, and try desperately to spend time with my hubs- our blog has basically been abandoned.  I know it won't get any easier in the future---so, for now, my goal is one entry per week.  This blog is as much for us as it is for everyone else.  We want to be able to look back over this process and remember fondly everything we have been through!  Maybe, I can convince Tyler that we should each write an entry per week.  We definitely have different perspectives as we move through this process.  We want to keep everyone in the loop and up-to-date on what is happening as we move toward becoming parents (as I type I am sighing with stress and excitement!)

Tomorrow will be week 4 in our active pursuit of fostering.  Half way.  We are getting closer and closer to welcoming a little one into our home.  Our classes have been...interesting.  We are preparing ourselves the best we can for the unknown.  This process is definitely making me a better, more flexible person.  We are doing this to help change childrens' lives---but we know it is much more likely that we will change our own lives!  With any luck, we will get to help a kiddo have a very special Christmas this year!

This weekend, we made several big purchases to get kiddo's room ready.  For me, this has been the most difficult part.  Every time we put something in the cart on our countless trips to Target, I say "does this look too girly" or "does this look like it would be in a boys room"?  We are open to either gender---but planning a room that is ready for a little girl OR boy is proving to be more difficult than I thought!

We have had many, many thoughtful people offer donations to us!  We will gladly accept any toys, clothes, etc.  that you may have, but unfortunately we can't give you specifics on age or gender---because we don't know.  It is likely that, come November, we will get a call and a kiddo on the same day!

The biggest misconception I have had to correct with family and friends is that we ARE not adopting.  Fostering is temporary.  We are helping a child have a safe home as their biological parent(s) do what is necessary to welcome them back home.  While they are in our home, we have all the rights that are granted to biological parents to make all decisions on behalf of the child.  We will work with the courts, child protected services, and the biological parents to have visits and make sure that the child has the best experience possible.

OK, the dryer and dishwasher just buzzed at the same time---seems like a cruel trick!  Off to go finish my Sunday to-dos.  I hope everyone has an amazing blessed week!  I am super stoked for this week as I start some fun projects with my school kiddos and prep for my future sister-in-law's bridal shower that I am hosting on Saturday!
