{Hoarders}
{T and I pride ourselves on not being materialistic. Or I should say that we DID pride ourselves on not loving material possessions. That was until we started a venture that would last these last few days. It all started on Thursday. "let's go through our closet and get it cleaned up," I said to T. He was hesitant, but obliged. Another reason I love him.
What T didn't know when I shared my organizational plan is that we were beginning a venture that would take 14+ hours. Poor baby, he is such a trooper. Have you ever seen the show Hoarders? A quick synopsis: cameras follow a therapist into a house filled with junk, er, I mean, filled with prized possessions. You know, like 8,000 empty soda bottles, newspapers from the last 15 years, and carpet you can't see without a shovel. Anywoo, a cleaning crew helps the habitants get their life in order. I tell you this not because our house was anywhere near the condition of the houses on this reality television show, but because T spent his 14+ hours looking for the cleaning crew ready to help us get this over with!
First things fist, we pulled every clothing item out of the closet, inspected it for rips and stains, tried it on and decided whether it was a keeper or ready to go to its next home. 11 bags of clothing and 1 bag of shoes later, we had sorted through our clothing. That's right...11 trash bags full of clothing! No. Joke. Next, we began to figure out where all the clothing would fit. Let me tell you, it fit much better once we had purged so much! However, I am an organizational nut and just sorting the clothes was not enough, so see the photos below to see the labels I made for each section of the closet.
Finally, for only 40 dollars we were able to install two new shelves outfitted with baskets to organize hats, belts and other miscellaneous objects. We were also lucky to find the cutest little shutter at Good JuJu for only 5 dollars. I hung it and turned it into an earring holder. Love it!
It may have taken FOREVER, but it was so worth it. T thinks so, too. Is it sad for a closet to be one of favorite places in our house? I think not.

PS- our closet organization turned into a whole house overhaul. We took a whole car load...in addition to the bags of clothing and shoes...to Goodwill. I am exhausted but so happy that everything has a home (even if that home is not our's).
So, I encourage you to think about your own space. Does it project a calm and organized feeling? If not, start on your journey today. It might take 14 hours. It might take a month. But the more your purge and organize the less hectic your daily life will be. Good Luck!
